What is “Dance Theatre” anyway?
Dance Theatre is a hybrid of dance and drama that emphasizes the images, emotions and movement of a particular story or theme. Though popularized in the second half of the 20th Century, the origin of Dance Theatre (or Tanztheater) can be traced to German expressionistic dance which focused on free movement expression. Well known Tanztheater choreographers include Pina Bausch, Reinhild Hoffman and Susanne Linke.
